Journey through history

In the years of Roman domination "AKONTISMA" was the station and fortress of Via Egnatia.
Quite possibly there used to be a small town bearing the same name in the outskirts of the fortress during the Byzantine years. In the era of the Othomanian domination, we meet a small village with the name Tsirpinti Tsinar, situated on the same hill.
The village waw bombarded and almost destroyed by the Bulgarians during the first world war. Remains of the village are found by people of Karvali, refugees of Kappadokia, when they came to in habit New Karvali.
After the year 1930 Tsirpinti Tsinar is "dug from the ground" and the materials (stones , wood, roofs) are carried in order that stables and sheds to be built in New Karvali.

Yesterday
In 1983 when the hill in the south of the ancient station becomes a valuable asset of Stegi Polistismou Neas Karvalis nothing reminds its old history. Here, in this quarry from where the stone waw extracted since 1930 so that the National Highway could be built, the theater and the Analipsis Church are being constructed.
Today
On 13 September 1996 through the INTERREG II program and with the generous after of the National Economy Ministry and The E.E.U., the stone village starts to be built which is called "Cultural Village Acontisma" to unite through its functional capacity the history and the civilization of yesterday with the future.
The area surroundings
The architecture of the village combines the respect towards the environments and the history of the area, by taking elements from the way houses are constructed in the nearly villages as well as in the distant Kappadokia, binding in the way memories with reality. It provides accommodation facilities for 100 people recreating areas, spacious squares and an open theater for the summer festivities places for symposiums and conferences artistic cafes and restaurants, places fro exhibitions and projections, so that every visitor can enjoy the warm hospitality "Akontisma" has to offer all around the year. One of the future projects of Stegi Politismou Neas Karvalis is in agreement and cooperation with EPCA of the region to open paths from the village towards the ancient fortess and to contribute to part of its restoration in order to make the long lasting history of the area widely known.
